John Prettyman – Teaching Pastor
“Our prayer is that God will work through our family to serve and glorify Him”
John grew up in a pastor’s home in Nebraska. He has two pastoring brothers, one missionary brother and three sisters. John’s parents currently serve the Lord together in Gillette, Wyoming.
Because of John’s upbringing he was familiar with the gospel at a young age, but was unconverted until his late teen years. He recounts, “For me, the gospel was nothing more than a fire protection plan, I didn’t see myself as sinful, nor did I see God as glorious. God had to open my eyes to see my sinful condition and His glory in the Gospel.”
In April of 1995, John married his high school sweetheart, Gwen. God has blessed their family with 5 children and 2 dogs. The two oldest, Jerod and Alyssa, are studying at The Masters University, and Olivia, Angela and Autumn are home serving the Lord with their parents. As for the dogs, Sophie is a 12- year old Dachshund and Lucy is a two-year old terrier mix.
John has been in full-time ministry for 17 years. He served the past 11 years as the teaching Pastor of a small-town church in Nebraska.
In late 2015, John and Gwen were introduced to Grace Bible Church of Hollister and began to pray about and consider if God would be moving them in this direction. John sent His resume in December of 2015 and was called to pastor at Grace in December 2016. He recounts, “While the process was long and arduous, the hand of God was apparent in each step, unequivocally confirming that this was His will for our lives.”
John is excited to join the Pastor/Elder team at Grace and looks forward to what the Lord has planned for His Church. His family has been blessed by how they have been received and welcomed to the Church and community. He added, “Our prayer is that God will work through our family to serve and glorify Him by helping the needy, sharing the gospel with the lost, preaching the truth and encouraging relational discipleship and accountability in the church”.
